The last members of the Communist
group Guerrilla Front Sendong received rewards from Misamis Occidental Governor
Henry S. Oaminal for choosing to renew his life and becoming a beacon of peace
within the province.
Governor Oaminal demonstrated his
dedication to pushing for peace and security in the province during a
Provincial Peace and Order Council meeting where he announced the provision of
full integration support to a former communist rebel who recently surrendered
to the 10th Infantry Battalion (10IB) of the Philippine Army deployed in the
province.
Gov. Oaminal met with Babylín
Labastida, also known as Ka Hill when she was the 2nd Deputy Secretary of the
Guerrilla Front Sendong, at the Asenso Misamis Occidental Sports and Cultural
Center on January 26, 2024.
Labastida received a cash reward
of P500,000 from the governor.
“Dawata kini nga kandidad nga

The governor has committed to
continue supporting former rebels in their journey toward peaceful life and
becoming a productive citizen of the country.
As the Chairperson of the
Provincial Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (ELCAC), Governor
Oaminal recognizes the importance of extending assistance to those who have
chosen to lay down their arms and embrace a fresh life away from armed struggle.
The surrender of Labastida serves
as a significant milestone in the province’s ongoing efforts to make the
Misamis Occidental an Insurgency-Free area—aligned with Gov. Oaminal’s 5Ms
(Misamisnon Magpuyong Malinawon, Malambuon ug Malipayon) vision in good governance.
Governor Oaminal expressed his
admiration for the exceptional dedication and sacrifices made by the 10IB
Commanding Officer, LTC JOSE ANDRE MONJE INF (GSC) PA, and his troops in
dismantling the Guerrilla Front Sendong.
“This accomplishment is a
testament to the province’s unwavering commitment to achieving lasting peace
and prosperity for its residents,” he said.
The Misamis Occidental Provincial
Government remains steadfast in its pursuit of sustainable peace and unity.
The recent surrendering of former
rebels serves as a clear indication that the province is on the right path in
its push for a more tranquil and prosperous future. (SN/PGMO)
